Without a doubt the Ingapirca Archeological Complex is the biggest and best preserved in Ecuador. It lies deep in the dry sierras swept by the wind of the southern mountain range, 80 kilometers (48 miles) north of Cuenca and at 3180 meters above sea level.

Pick-up at hotel between 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Without a doubt the Ingapirca Archeological Complex is the biggest and best preserved in Ecuador. It lies deep in the dry sierras swept by the wind of the southern mountain range, 80 kilometers (48 miles) north of Cuenca and at 3180 meters above sea level.

Along the way you will observe interesting Andean landscapes and people in colorful dress. Along the highway we see the famous “cascaritas” (pork rinds), a typical dish based on crisp pork skins.

Ingapirca offers us an incredible view of the past, coming to know the Cañari and Inca cultures. Marvel at the different styles of construction of the temples as well as the precise solar calculations and aqueduct system. In addition we visit the outstanding Virgen del Rocío church, which sits high on the cliffs of the nearby town of Biblián.

Depending on the day on which we do the tour, visits may vary slightly. Here are the options: Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Sat: Cuenca – Biblián. Stop at the “Weavers of Biblián”. (The weavers are located along the Cuenca-Cañar highway). Friday: Cuenca-Ingapirca – The Animal and Handicrafts Market. Sunday: Cuenca-Cañar - Colorful market in the town of Cañar.

Return to hotels at approximately 4 p.m.

Observations: Fridays and Sundays are Fair Days and we visit the markets.

Recommendations For Tourists: Wear comfortable hiking shoes for walking and warm clothing. Ingapirca is windy. Temperatures in Ingapirca can vary from 14 to 16 degrees C. (61 to 65 F.) during the day. But it often feels much colder with the wind. Sun screen, windbreaker, rain gear (in case of rain). Drinks: bottled water, juices. Cash to pay entrance fees.
