SPLIT - From Roman Trails to a Modern City

This tour provides a thematic, knowledgeable experience with an expert communicator, Mr.Sc Historian & Art Historian with an ability to present cultural heritage in understandable, interesting way. Passionate about the topic, it’s a genuine presentation of the things that surround us. Besides the expert topics, you get to hear and see about everyday life, customs and habits of the local living. On our way of exploring and discovering we try to indulge the environment (by taking photo shooting points or short refreshment stops).

The point of the tour is not to listen and follow, but actively participate and comment, to ask questions and interact with a group. It is not a standard tour because it does intrigue you to think and include yourself to a certain workshop which enables you to perceive and experience.

After the tour you are inspired by our culture, history and everyday life, which is our ultimate goal. Besides all that we do not forget how to enjoy every step of the our way.

Stop At: Riva Harbor, Riva Promenade, Split 21000 Croatia

• City Map – introduction & reconstruction; the review of Split facts and figures through the history to modern days; the story of foundation of the city and much more

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Palazzo di Diocleziano, Iza Vestibula 3, Split 21000 Croatia

• Diocletian basements / Cellars... we pass through it with all the explanations needed to understand purpose and the layout of it. The entrance to the site itself depends on the interest of the group. The fee is minimum.

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: The Peristyle of Diocletian's Palace, Dioklecijanova Ulica, Split 21000 Croatia

Peristyle (main Roman square)... you get a review of the whole construction of the Palace, the main parts of it, the architectural overview, incorporated with the modern city. We pass through the Diocletian residence to see what is there left to our legacy.

Stop At: Cathedral of Saint Domnius, Kraj Sv.Duje 5, Split 21000 Croatia

We pass near the cathedral which used to be the emperors mausoleum. You get all the details about the story how, when and why it has been founded with all the explanation of the artifacts of the interior and exterior. The entrance to the site itself is up to the group. The fee includes the visit to the Cathedral / Mausoleum, The St. Lucy Crypt and the Jupiter's temple.

Stop At: The Golden Gate, Ul. Kralja Tomislava, Split 21000 Croatia

Narrow alleys to the Golden Gate... we pass through the most interesting living arteries of the city, incorporated with the Ghetto neighborhood. You get to see and hear about the local living, gotic - renaissance palaces, the city museum and much more. We and up this route to the northern gate of the Palace.

Stop At: Fruit's Square (Trg Brace Radic), Trg Brace Radic, Split 21000 Croatia

We pass through the most vibrant parts of nowadays Split - Piazza and the Fruit Square. We get to see the Palace from the outside, we hear about the development of the city after the Romans. Venetian Split that bypasses the Palace from the outside is the most various part of the old town because of the historical facts and the outstanding architecture.

We conclude our tour to the central part of Riva where many locals spend their mornings and afternoon. You get to know everyday life and peak into the local living corners of this amazing city.
