Itinerary

Day 1: Valley of the moon

Stop At: Valle De La Luna, San Pedro de Atacama Chile
3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.: leave the meeting point on Caracoles Street Tour to Valle de la Luna. We will start the tour departing from the center of San Pedro de Atacama towards the Cordillera de la Sal in the Atacama Desert, the driest place on earth, in the direction of one of its most picturesque points: the Moon Valley. The names already give a clear clue to the landscape, where rock formations modeled by erosion, salt mantles and views that will make you feel like on another planet reign. We will cross the valley transversely, visiting its famous rock formations: the Three Marias, the Canyon, the Amphitheater and the Coyote Stone. To finish the tour, we will enjoy the sunset from a natural viewpoint, where you can see how the desert changes color, with large volcanoes on the horizon, offering a show that will leave you speechless.

Already in the salt flat, we will walk along the paths of the Chaxa lagoon, which is part of the Los Flamencos national reserve. This lagoon is a nesting place and habitat for the three species of flamingos that inhabit Chile: Andean flamenco, Chilean flamenco and James flamenco. Later, we will visit the Altiplanic lagoons, starting with the Miscanti lagoon. It is a nesting site for the tagua cornuda, bird of the Altiplano, and is located at the foot of the Miscanti hill, in the Andes mountain range next to its sister, the Miñiques lagoon. This lagoon is at the foot of the Miñiques volcano, whose eruption involves the formation of the two lagoons millions of years ago. Already on the way back, we will pass through the town of Socaire, a place that is characterized by the maintenance of cultivation terraces since pre-Hispanic times. In the end, we will reach San Pedro de Atacama.
