Browser Helpers and Application Extensions

A Browser Helper is a small program that runs every time you start your Internet browser.

Usually installed on your system by other software as an additional application. Companies often allow these as they may receive payment from the "application provider".

Not all are bad. This obviously depends on what you do with your PC and what information you don't mind sharing. We could tell you whether 'we' deem an application or file to be malicious in nature, however, to You, this may not matter in some cases. We would suggest that you check your system for these, and then spend some time researching their 'publisher', to find out exactly what information you may be sharing with them.

*Another reason that we suggest you doing research is that it is both very easy to look one up on the Web, and in some cases, an application or extension may be able to CHANGE or alter its' primary focus. This means that it may be considered harmless today.... but...well, you know what we mean.

Please don't become paranoid if you do find many of these in your PC. Yes, there will be some that you will not want, however, a few of these applications are very helpful to us, and you may even find a couple in our "Best of The Web!"

In some cases you will not be able to find a file by its' given name, but you may come across it by the number representing it....
