The Spyware's BehaviorThe spyware 'CommonName' has an adware program that displays advertisements based on keywords in search engines. The spyware component works as a Browser Helper Object.Spyware files can be detected as Adware under the file name(s) CommonName. The adware component must be manually installed or installed as a component of another program that you install. File names: Not available Spyware 'CommonName' has an adware program that, when certain keywords are typed when using a search engine, will display their advertisers results. The functionality of this adware component is that you can type keywords instead of the URLs to reach Web sites. The server that CommonName's spyware contacts is commonname.com, on port 80. CommonName's spyware runs as a Browser Helper Object, which means that the adware component receives information regarding all the recorded actions inside your Internet Explorer. When CommonName's Spyware is installed, it creates several registry keys in the Windows registry. The adware component in CommonName creates the folder, C:\Program Files\CommonName. All the files belonging to the adware component will be inserted into this folder. The spyware component appears to track Internet usage habits, but without using your identification number. The spyware does not appear to track personally identifiable information either. *Try to uninstall spyware 'CommonName' using your Add/Remove Programs utility. *Make sure you run a full system spyware scan and delete all the spyware files detected as Adware under the file name(s) CommonName. Uninstalling the Spyware ProgramDo one of the following:On the Windows 98 taskbar: Click Start > Settings > Control Panel. In the Control Panel window, double-click Add/Remove Programs. On the Windows Me taskbar: Click Start > Settings > Control Panel. In the Control Panel window, double-click Add/Remove Programs. If you do not see the Add/Remove Programs icon, click "...view all Control Panel options." On the Windows 2000 taskbar: By default, Windows 2000 is set up the same as Windows 98. In that case, follow the Windows 98 instructions. Otherwise, click Start, point to Settings, point to Control Panel, and then click Add/Remove Programs. On the Windows XP taskbar: Click Start > Control Panel. In the Control Panel window, double-click Add or Remove Programs. Click CommonName. Click Add/Remove, Change/Remove, or Remove (this varies with the operating system). Follow the prompts. Scanning for and Deleting the Spyware filesRun your free Spyware Scanner and make sure that it is configured to scan all files.Run a full system spyware scan.
